My studio property is a mix of wetland and forest that backs onto the Headwaters of Sixteen Mile Creek which runs down through the Halton Region to Lake Ontario. This little painting was completed one afternoon after a x-country ski on Jan 27, 2021 to the partially frozen stream at the back of our property.
Headwaters of Sixteen Mile Creek is unframed,measures 2.75 x 6.5″ and the paper size is 4 x 8″. I drew the landscape in pen and filled it in with watercolour. It is on Terraskin paper made from crushed stone and has a smooth surface unlike most traditional watercolour paper. I enjoy the way the watercolour paint slips around the surface until it dries. The crystalized effect on the icy water is from sprinkling salt on the paint while it dries.
