This Sunday, November 20, watch while I create a new painting live to music by Dj Automated Soul (Andrew Hendriks) @ the Williams Mill Visual Art Centre, Glen Williams from 1 – 3pm with the performance starting at 1:30. I will start with a blank canvas and draw inspiration from the grooves to finish the acrylic painting within the hour. Put on your dancing shoes. Everyone is welcome.
Working together since 2002, Hendriks and Newlove’s concept of a multi disciplinary performance pulses with life and is infused with a sense of playfulness and adventure.
Andrew Hendriks has developed a unique fusion of minimal dub techno, Detroit house and more experimental ambient textures. Using loops and samples, Hendriks cuts and stitches sounds using analog and digital mediums to make funky dance music.
During the live set Newlove works to record and paint a direct expression of the music using layers of organic washes and heavy mark-making. Abstract figures and buildings are carefully constructed and then deconstructed as Newlove captures thoughts of man and machine, urban life and concepts of hope and freedom in concert with Hendriks’ approach in layering complex sound samples.
December 1 + 2 , 7pm at The Pearl Company in Hamilton, Gregory Hoskins and I present our third and fourth installments of live projected painting and song we call “Illuminate Me”. Gregory recorded a bit of a song captured a little video that points to what the nights of painting and song might look like. It’s a rare way to watch the collision of two art disciplines and experience the chaos of making something from nothing. (Accessibility: 2nd Floor, no elevator).
